Accurate COD Measurement with COD Vials Ultra High Range Part Number K-7375

The COD Vials Ultra High Range Part Number K-7375 is designed to measure Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) in water with a range of 0-15,000 ppm. Widely used in municipal and industrial laboratories, COD determination helps gauge the organic contamination levels in wastewater by calculating the oxygen needed to oxidise the organic matter in the sample.

Dichromate Reactor Digestion Method

CHEMetrics provides two efficient dichromate reactor digestion methods for determining COD levels across various ranges: the USEPA-accepted Method* and a mercury-free method. The USEPA-accepted method includes mercuric sulfate to eliminate chloride interference, while the mercury-free option is suitable when chloride interference is not a concern and USEPA reporting is not required.

Easy-to-Use Leakproof Reagent K-7375 COD Vials

CHEMetrics’ reagent vials are leakproof and premeasured with sulfuric acid and potassium dichromate. To perform COD determination:
1. Remove the Teflon-lined screw cap.
2. Add the sample to the vial.
3. Replace the cap and heat the vial at 150°C in a standard digestor block for two hours.

Photometer Compatibility and Results

After digestion, results can be obtained using any photometer that accepts 16-mm diameter cells. CHEMetrics K-7375 COD vials are compatible with the V-2000 multi-analyte photometer, CHEMetrics’ single analyte COD photometers, and numerous Hach1 spectrophotometers. Built-in Hach COD methods and calibrations can be utilised without new calibration. A generic calibration equation is included in the CHEMetrics™ kit for other spectrophotometers.

0-15000mg/L.  (UHR) Can be used as a replacement for Hach vials. Further info is available on request.

What is Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)?

Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) is a critical parameter in wastewater management that quantifies the amount of oxygen required to oxidise organic matter present in water. The COD test involves digesting a water sample with potassium dichromate and sulfuric acid at 150°C for 2 hours, providing a measure of water pollution levels.

Why Test for COD?

Measuring COD is essential for:

  1. Assessing Water Pollution: COD tests estimate pollution levels in water entering and exiting wastewater treatment plants and industrial facilities.
  2. Regulatory Compliance: In the United States, the Clean Water Act (CWA) mandates treatment facilities to comply with pollutant release targets set by the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).
  3. Optimising Energy Use: COD levels help wastewater engineers determine the oxygen required for treatment, influencing aeration equipment power consumption and allowing for better energy management.a

About CHEMetrics COD Test Kits

Our COD test kits offer reliable, efficient methods for measuring low, mid, and high-range COD levels in wastewater:

  • USEPA-accepted Method: Includes mercuric sulfate to eliminate chloride interference, suitable for compliance with USEPA reporting requirements.
  • Mercury-free Method: Ideal for scenarios where chloride interference is not an issue and USEPA reporting is not necessary.

Why Choose CHEMetrics COD Test Kits?

  • Fast and Easy: Designed for quick, straightforward testing.
  • Safe: Ensures safe handling and usage.
  • Versatile: Applicable for various COD levels, meeting different regulatory and operational needs.
